Brief description
This is a back-end founding role for a seed-stage company building an AI sales call voice agent. If you're looking for a role focused on business viability and steady revenue, this is probably a good fit for you.
You'll be building out infrastructure for their real-time agents, public APIs for outside users to plug into their product, your own integrations with e.g. customer CRMs. You'll also be doing the usual collaboration with their ML and front-end teams as needed, being part of hiring decisions, and mentoring and guiding junior team members. While this role involves some degree of tech leadership (in the general sense that a senior IC with architecture responsibilities always has some top-down responsibility), it doesn't involve any people management.
What they're looking for
[Required]
Open to working in-office in downtown San Francisco 3-4 days/week.
See "what they're offering" for relocation help/visa info.
5+ years of experience
Strong technical communication (this is a leadership role, so being able to communicate requirements and goals is essential)
Humble and intellectually-honest personality
Some professional experience with Python or Go
Some professional experience building web APIs (so e.g. you're not just building on-device apps)
[Preferred]
Experience at growth-stage companies (big plus, but not a hard requirement)
Experience at multiple companies
Some variance in past experience (you haven't just done the same thing for the last ten years)
Experience at organizations with strong engineering cultures (e.g. Stripe, Meta)
What they're offering
Salary: 170k-250k
Equity: On the high end for their stage, though they've asked us not to give specific numbers since they'll change as they make hires.
Reasonable work-life balance expectations. While occasional off-hours fires are a reality of startup engineering, overwork is not a regular expectation.
Experienced founders. One founder is a YC alum, the other is an ex-Google, ex-Forbes-30-under-30 feature.
Relocation assistance if you do not already live in the Bay Area.
Good revenue growth and a recent $6M raise for stability.
Office near the Montgomery BART station in downtown SF, so you can commute realistically from almost anywhere in the Bay Area.
They can't sponsor new visas, but they can transfer existing ones. This means that in practice, this role is open to US work visa holders or candidates from Canada/Mexico, Singapore/Chile, or Australia, thanks to the easy-to-get TN, H1B1, and E-3 visas respectively.
Free dinners each evening and "excellent health insurance" (ask them for details).
